# Large pools and batches

> When Tenure's database matches more people than one pass, nothing starts until you narrow the role or choose batches.

Tenure's database can match a lot of people for a broad role. One pass works through up to 150. When the match is larger, the run does not start yet. A panel tells you how many people matched and gives you two ways forward.

## Narrow the role

Add a city, a specialty, a credential, or years of experience and start again. A narrower role gets a sharper message and a better reply rate, so this is usually the right choice.

## Start in batches

Run it as is, and Tenure works the pool in batches of 150. Each batch finishes before the next begins, and every channel starts together on the first batch. The run page shows which batch is being worked.

## Why not just contact everyone

The message is sent at a daily pace so it reads as a person writing, not a broadcast. A large pool at that pace takes weeks, during which the role may fill or change. Batches keep the run honest about how long it will take, and give you a natural point to stop.
